Michelle Bachelet visited the Rohingya camp!

A 6-member delegation led by the head of the United Nations High Commission on Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, visited the Ukhiya Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar. During the discussion with the Rohingya leaders at Camp-4, they (Rohingyas) informed the delegation about going back to their native country, Myanmar.

Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Shah Rezwan Hayat welcomed Michelle Bachelet when she arrived at Camp-4 at 8am on Tuesday (August 16). Learn about the Rohingya data inclusion process by visiting the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) data registration center and interacting with Rohingya beneficiaries. In the same camp, he visited the Food Distribution Center of the United Nations Food Program (WFP) and the Women Friendly Service Center run by BRAC in B-18 Block and spoke about the quality of food in the food distribution center and sexual health and gender based violence in the Women Friendly Service Center.

Later the delegation went to the BRAC Community Center located in Block D-15 of Camp-4. There, Rohingya held separate discussions with a representative of Imams and a delegation of youth. There, the delegation wants to know about the overall law and order situation of the camp from the arriving Rohingya representatives. Meanwhile, the Rohingya representatives said that they (Rohingyas) want to return to Myanmar with full citizenship along with giving them all rights and requested the delegation to arrange their return to Myanmar as soon as possible.

The delegation visited the International Organization for Migration funded tree plantation program at M-31 Block of Camp-20 around 12 noon, interacted with officials and volunteers and learned about the tree plantation programme.

After returning from there, visiting various learning centers, the delegation led by Michelle Bachelet left Ukhia Rohingya camp for Cox’s Bazar by car. Arrived in Cox’s Bazar and participated in an exchange meeting at the office of the Commissioner for Refugee Relief and Repatriation. After the meeting, the important UN official and delegation left Cox’s Bazar for Dhaka by air.

In addition to speaking at a seminar at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies, Michelle Bachelet, the High Commissioner of the United Nations Human Rights Commission and the former president of Chile, will hold a press conference in the afternoon.
